LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

KING OF FASHION (Sedgefield 3.05) confirmed the promise of his comeback run when beaten a length by Progress Drive in an Ayr novices’ hurdle by going one better over the same course and 2m4½f distance early last month. He was visually impressive in scoring by six lengths over Strong Economy, who duly franked the form when going in last week. The selection, trained by Ian Duncan, appears to have benefited from a tongue tie and he looks the one to be on in the seven-runner 2m5f novices’ hurdle, which is a qualifier for the Northern Staying Hurdle Series final.

SIMMPLY SAM (Sedgefield 4.05) may be able to defy a penalty for winning at Ayr last week. He had heavy ground that suited her and useful 7lb claimer Will Easterby renews the partnership today. She loves the mud and while she came unstuck in tacky ground over a trip too far at Catterick previously, Marjorie Fife’s 10-year-old had been consistent before that, having been placed in her previous three run, including when winning at Newcastle in December. The going is officially soft at Ayr and any further rain will help her as she faces 11 rivals in the 2m3½f handicap hurdle.

PUSHKIN MUSEUM (Wolverhampton 3.50) is another hoping to defy a penalty, having scored over today’s course and distance in a poor race last week. Patrick Morris’ six-year-old is far from reliable, but he travelled well just off the pace and had a decent pitch off the bed, which is crucial on this tight track. He has dropped down the weights and may well start taking advantage after an indifferent spell. A fair draw in stall 8 should not be a detriment as he tackles 12 rivals in this 0-60 contest.

NICKI’S NIPPER (Sedgefield 2.35) has been steadily rising up the weights since scoring her (in April) and at Cartmel (June). The handicapper appeared to have her measure for a spell and while her chasing debut was one to draw a line under when she returned to action in December, she stuck on really gamely in defeat when switched back over timber here last month and was beaten just under three lengths by Alys Rock. She is no certainty, but on a quiet day where few stand out for betting purposes, you know Sam England’s runner will always try her best.
