Windsor Races

LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

FOXCATCHER (Windsor 1.50) can get off the mark at the fifth attempt for trainer Clive Cox and jockey Adam Kirby in the opening 5f maiden. The juvenile filly faces 13 opponents and will sport blinkers for the first time, having chased home Drop Kick Murphi over 5½f at Bath last time in first time cheekpieces for her nursery debut. She stayed on well and held every chance near the line, and while this drop back to the minimum trip is a slight gamble, she is drawn well among the speed horses, so should get a nice tow into the race.

DOWAYLA (Pontefract 3.40) can give champion jockey Jim Crowley yet another winner in what has been a remarkable season. The Saeed bin Suroor-trained daughter of Sepoy made a winning debut at Nottingham last month, being taken to the front early enough in the 1m½f maiden but stuck on well in the style of a useful fill. Her dam, a daughter of Dubawi, was a listed-placed 7f winner, and while this step up into Listed class is a big jump, she should give a good account over this mile trip.

UNIFY (Plumpton 3.00) made heavy weather of landing the odds at Fontwell last time, having followed up last month’s victory in a Southwell handicap chase off a 7lb higher mark. Anthony Honeyball’s six-year-old is handed another 6lb hike to a mark of 96 as he bids to land the hat-trick in the 2m3½f event for the Josh Gifford Memorial Trophy. Though he may well be vulnerable, this race still seems a decent landing spot.

SABRE SQUADRON (Pontefract 5.10) has not been seen out since winning a 1m½f maiden at Leicester in May, so fitness must be taken on trust when Peter Chapple-Hyam’s runner lines up in a field of 12 for division two of the 1m2f handicap. Jamie Spencer’s mount looked a progressive stayer when scoring last time and the three-year-old was well backed when fifth to the useful Mustashry at Thirsk on his second start. It is hoped that the step up in trip will be to his benefit and his mark of 80 may soon looks on the conservative side.

Windsor races 5.jpg

LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

CALIBRATION (Windsor 4.20) gets a mark of 82 for his first attempt in a nursery, having shown plenty of promise in all three previous starts for Martyn Meade. Beaten under two lengths by the useful Eqtiraan and Rivet on his 6f Ascot debut in July, he had to play second fiddle to a decent Godolphin colt in Deningy at Sandown next time over 7f. The form of his last run, when going down three-quarters of a length to Solomon’s Bay at Yarmouth (7f) reads well, given that the third home, Via Serendipity, subsequently landed a decent Newmarket nursery. The Excelebration colt steps up to a mile today and this looks an excellent landing spot to get off the mark.

UTILITY (Southwell 3.10) can make his novice hurdling debut a winning one. The Jonjo O’Neill-trained five-year-old cost £130,000 as a three-year-old and is related to some smart German Flat winners. He scored by 11 lengths on his bumper debut over 2m in heavy ground at Uttoxeter last December but was very disappointing when very well backed to win a Grade 2 bumper at Aintree in April on quicker ground. That did not look like his true form and though he has to overcome a 178-day lay-off, he is primed to open his account over hurdles in the 1m7½f event.

GLORIOUS FOREVER (Windsor 2.20) caught the eye at Redcar on his debut when a running on-fourth behind Davy’s Dilemma in a 7f maiden five weeks ago. That form looks solid enough, with the second home subsequently a runner-up a Ffos Las and the third home chasing home Star Of The East at Ripon. This good-looking Archipenko juvenile, trained by Ed Walker, should be better for that experience and will appreciate this mile trip on similar good to soft ground.

KREB’S CYCLE (Pontefract 2.30) has been pretty consistent, winning two of his seven starts for Richard Hannon and runner-up on another two occasions. He acquitted himself well when fourth to Phijee in a 6f conditions race at Ripon last time (a contest that has produced plenty of Group performers in the past). Previously, he won over 6f in heavy ground at Leicester and was then given a mark of 84 for his nursery debut, when fourth to Pleaseletmewin on his penultimate start over 7f in a hot race on Newmarket’s July course. While the handicapper knows plenty about him, a replication of that form in a modest-looking 0-85 handicap should see him in the shake-up again.

Horse racing Lucky 15 – Thursday’s top selections

Each day Bet4Causes will provide you with a preview of the day’s racing, offering what the experts feel will be the value bets of the day.

After yesterday’s fourth winning NAP selection in five days and a Next Best winner, take a look at our Lucky 15 selections (four singles, six doubles, four trebles and a four-fold) for the British meetings on Thursday, September 22, 2016.

Newmarket Races

LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

CIRENCESTER (Pontefract 4.35) looked a filly to follow when finishing third on her debut to Flying North at Ascot a couple of weeks ago. The daughter of Sea The Stars cost 100,000 guineas and showed plenty of ability over the mile, learning plenty. Her dam was a 5f/7f winner and a half-sister to the Group 2 winner Memory, so she has plenty of speed to go with her stamina. Ralph Beckett employs the services of champion jockey Silvestre De Sousa for this 1m maiden and unless one of the unraced trio are out of the ordinary, the selection should get off the mark.

UNFORGETTABLE FILLY (Newmarket 3.10) showed plenty of promise on her Newmarket debut when chasing home Rockfel and Fillies’ Mile entry Spatial. She confirmed that when scoring by seven lengths on her second start at Lingfield in wat looked a hot 7½f maiden. She still looked in need of the experience and was a little keen to post but she made all the running to score handsomely. It was felt she would take a step up in class, but trainer Hugo Palmer has found a conditions race over 7f for her and the small field should be no detriment to her.

MOTIVATE (Chelmsford City 6.45) is trained by Sir Mark Prescott and in typical style, steps up markedly in trip for his handicap debut, having not run since April. There is very little form to go on, since this three-year-old gelded son on Motivator was sent off at big prices over inadequate trips and the handicapper could do no kore than offer him an official mark of 57. Given his stamina-laden pedigree, today’s extended 1m5f trip should show him in a much better light and expect this one to improve in low-grade handicaps throughout the autumn, whatever the outcome today.

SHABEEB (Pontefract 4.00) has won two of his three starts this season and may be able to add another victory in a cracking 1m2f handicap on a good card at the Yorkshire track. Roger Varian’s representative won a Sandown maiden to open the season and followed up in style, scoring by six lengths in an extended 1m2f conditions race at Doncaster in June. Upped to Group 3 company and trying 1m5f for the first time in Newmarket’s Bahrain Trophy, he was a little disappointing, although not beaten far, by Housesofparliament a month later. Varian’s horses were under a cloud in mid-summer and it is hoped that this one will return to the form he showed prior to his tame Newmarket effort. Racing off a mark of 100, he is the highest-rated horse in the seven-runner field.

Ayr 3.jpg

LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

MUBAJAL (Pontefract 3.25) appeared to have plenty of scope for improvement when scoring at odds-on in a 1m2f Chelmsford City all-weather maiden by nine lengths last month. Admittedly it was only a three-runner affair but he swept his rivals aside with the minimum of fuss. The handicapper has been kind, since he goes up 1lb to a mark of 85 for his handicap debut, were the Owen Burrows-trained Dubawi colt takes on 12 rivals. It looks a hugely competitive handicap but we go with the improving three-year-old over some hard-knocking types.

SPLASH AROUND (Yarmouth 2.10) ducked a 7f engagement at Sandown yesterday in favour of today’s mile maiden and the Sir Michael Stoute-trained juvenile may well be the one to be on. A 160,000 guineas half-brother to the sharp and high-class juvenile winner Aktabantay, Splash Around was pretty green but showed ability on his only start when staying on well over an inadequate 7f at Newmarket in July. He is bred to stay further than this.

KAMRA (Chelmsford City 5.50) found a class hike a little too much when beaten comprehensively in a 6f York nursery last month. The Jeremy Noseda-trained Stay Thirsty juvenile had previously confirmed the promise of his Yarmouth second when getting on top close home in a 5f maiden at Nottingham under Jim Crowley, who resumes the partnership in a weaker 5f nursey off a mark of 83. There should be a bit more to come and the draw (stall 10) should not hold too many fears.

SERENGETI SKY (Yarmouth 3.15) drops back to 6f, having been a beaten favourite at Sandown over 7f last time. The easy ground and the combination of the testing hill and trip may have sapped his stamina on that occasion and while his previous Group-race entries are no longer valid, the Charlie Appleby-trained Lonhro juvenile had looked the part when previously scoring with a bit to spare at Epsom over 7f on better ground. He makes his first start in a nursery off a mark of 80, which looks realistic.

Horse racing Lucky 15 – Sunday’s top selections

Pintefract races.jpg

LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

SAVANNAH’S DREAM (Pontefract 2.20) may be able to get off the mark at the third attempt in the opening 5f juvenile maiden. David O’Meara’s Showcasing filly, who cost 42,000 guineas earlier this year, hails from a yard who is doing well with its youngsters lately. She was a little green when third on her Ripon debut and subsequently went to the Listed Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot as an unbacked 100/1 shot. However, she had clearly learned plenty in the interim as she was a fine second to runaway winner Ardad, having taken advantage of her good draw in favourable soft ground. The faster ground may be against her today, but she takes a drop in class to maiden company and it looks a very winnable 5f opener.

CONVEY (Pontefract 4.00) has won just one of his eight races and that is a tally that was probably not anticipated by connections of the well-bred Dansili four-year-old. Soft ground was against him in the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot but he ran well for a long way in the Group 2 Summer Mile at the same venue earlier this month before fading late. The drop in class to Listed company for the Pomfret Stakes should be just what Sir Michael Stoute’s representative needs against weaker opposition.

BARABOY (Uttoxeter 3.00) can follow up his 2m course and distance win last time in a competitive handicap hurdle, although he will have to overcome an 11lb hike in the weights to do so. To be fair, he is still 3lb below his peak rating and the fitting of cheekpieces on his last two runs seem to have had the desired effect. There does not appear to be a great deal of strength in depth in division one of this race and Barry Murtagh’s representative looks the one to beat again.

TOP OF THE GLAS (Carlisle 3.15) is on a run of 25 races without a win since scoring at Chester in August 2014 off a mark of 80. His consistency in defeat means he is still running off the same mark today in a competitive 1m3f handicap. Brian Ellison’s representative was a close-up fourth to Sindarban here on his penultimate start before touched off when favourite at Newcastle over an extended 1m4f on the Newcastle all-weather surface last month. Fresh from a four-week break and wit 7lb claimer Ben Robinson aboard, that might just be enough to end the barren spell for the tough as teak five-year-old.

Haydock Park Flat.jpg

LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

WEST COAST FLYER (Haydock 4.25) looked a horse to follow when staying on nicely at Newcastle on just his fourth career start. He gained a second win that day, despite still having to be ridden from some way out. He showed signs of inexperience but is a big, scopey individual who should keep progressing. The soft ground is an unknown but he is on an upward curve.

NOBLY BORN (Newbury 3.40), a half-brother to several winners, notably 1m Group 1 winner Peeress, was behind stablemate Spiritous on his Newmarket debut, but showed he’d learned plenty next time out when scoring easily at Yarmouth over 6f. John Gosden’s representative was always up with the pace and quickened up nicely. His breeding suggests he should progress to be well above average and he handled the fast ground.

TRINITY STAR (Pontefract 8.05) has had five previous trips to tis track and has either won (twice) or been placed. Michael Dods’ five-year-old won here over a mile off a mark of 75 in October and was beaten only a neck off 1lb higher upon his return to the Yorkshire track 18 days ago. He does take a step up in class today, but there appears to be plenty of pace in the race at which to aim and that is very much in his favour.

SOUTH SEAS (Haydock 2.40) looks to old an obvious chance of following up his debut win in a 6f soft-ground Windsor maiden for Andrew Balding. The son of Lope De Vega, who fetched 145,000 guineas as a yearling, certainly knew is job, powering to an eight length success. Hs trainer had thoughts about running him at Royal Ascot without a run, such was the ability he’d shown at home and he should be able to win this 6f novices’ race before moving on to much better things.

Brighton Races

LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

MISS CRICK (Uttoxeter 5.50) seeks a hat-trick after displaying a net turn of foot to see off For Goodness Sake at Ffos Las last month. Alan King’s mare appears to have flourished in the last couple of months and he victory on her penultimate start at Worcester appears to have helped her confidence. She goes in a competitive conditional jockeys’ novices’ hurdle and while young Kevin Dowling is the least experienced pilot, he is an up-and-coming claimer who takes a useful 8lb off her back in the extended 1m7f event.

MR ORANGE (Pontefract 2.40) takes a drop back to 5f and from the foot of the weights in this 0-75 handicap, holds a fair chance of gaining a second career success. Paul Midgley’s representative scored at the sixth time of asking at Thirsk in May and was not beaten far next time out at Redcar. Though beaten two lengths when equipped with cheeckpieces over 6f here last time, he did well considering the poor draw. He should be in the shake-up, running off the same mark of 61.

MAYASA (Wolverhampton 5.55) takes a step up in trip to 1m4f, having shown a fair level of form in her first two handicaps. She won a mile maiden by six lengths at Southwell in December and was placed subsequently on both starts at Lingfield, spaced five months aside of each other. She has been ridden prominently and it is likely that James Tate’s three-year-old will attempt to dictate matters again. She looks to hold a fair chance if handling the extra distance.

LUTINE CHARLIE (Brighton 7.10) is no world beater, as his official handicap mark of 51 suggests. However, he has been knocking on the door at a lowly level, particularly at this switchback track and went down by half a length on his latest run here two weeks ago. Emma Owen’s nine-year-old is only a couple of pounds higher than when last scoring in February and a bold bid is expected over this mile trip.

Horse racing Lucky 15 – Monday’s top selections

Each day Bet4Causes will provide you with a preview of the day’s racing, offering what the experts feel will be the value bets of the day.

After Sunday’s winning NAP, Take a look at our Lucky 15 selections (four singles, six doubles, four trebles and a four-fold) for the British meetings on Monday, June 27, 2016…

Pontefract races 2.jpg

LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

PACO’S ANGEL (Windsor 5.55) has had two starts and finished second on both starts for trainer Richard Hughes, who will be hoping that the daughter of Paco Boy will make it ‘third time lucky’ in the 5f fillies’ maiden. She was fancied for her last start at Lingfield in soft ground, having made a decent debut at Bath, but while she was well held, she beat her reaming six rivals with plenty in hand. She would probably appreciate a quicker surface than she is likely to get here, but should be able to get off the mark.

THOMAS CRANMER (Musselburgh 6.40), whose dam was a 1m½f winner in America, was easy to back on his debut in a decent all-weather 6f novices’ event at Lingfield and the market proved correct. Mark Johnston’s representative was very green and suffered a wide trip. However, the penny began to drop late on and he stayed on nicely, suggesting it would not be long before he broke his duck. While stablemate Monticello looks the one to beat, this step up to 7f may well help Andrew Mullen’s mount.

LOVE DREAMS (Pontefract 2.35) was always up with the pace when scoring on his 6f Hamilton debut on good to soft ground. Mark Johnston’s representative, a half-brother to three winners including Whipless, looked a little green mentally and that run will have taught him plenty, so he can be expected to know a little more and hopefully he can maintain his unbeaten record in the 6f conditions race.

GET UP AND DANCE (Pontefract 4.40) looked a decent filly when beating nine rivals here on her second start, having leaned plenty from her debut. The runner-up had a mark of 70 and she gets into today’s 6f classified stakes off a mark of 75, which looks lenient. The half-sister to Pearl Secret, who cost 120,000 guineas as a foal, should improve again and it will take a good one to beat William Haggas’s filly.

Brighton Races

LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

PUMBLECHOOK (Pontefract 2.40) was third to Wings Of Desire on his debut at Wolverhampton and that form looks particularly solid given the winner’s subsequent victory in the Dante at York and then his fourth in the Epsom Derby to Harzand. While it would not do to take that form too literally, the runner-up, Mahfooz, is also quite well regarded and he was second on his next run at Bath. The fourth home has also won since. So Lucy Wadam’s three-year-old would appear to have a fair chance of getting off the mark on his first turf start in a 1m4f maiden. It is worth noting that Jim Crowley, who saw the selection’s first race, called his agent, Tony Hind, and asked to get on the horse next time. He got his wish, too.

BOWDLER’S MAGIC (Hexham 3.00) won a couple of hurdles at Fakenham (handicap) and Wetherby (novices’) last autumn on soft ground and was not beaten far when runner-up to Tickenwolf at Wetherby on his last run over hurdles off the same mark of 115 he runs off today. David Thompson’s representative has had a couple of encouraging runs on the Flat since and this consistent nine-year-old may well get his head in front in a reasonably competitive 2m4f handicap hurdle.

SIR EDWIN LANDSEER (Gowran Park 2.15) has just had one start, a fine third to stablemates War Decree and Orderofthegarter over seven furlongs at Leopardstown. The winner looked like a Group horse in the making and the selection was unable to pick up at a crucial stage. He was given an easy time of it when beaten and the son of Galileo will no doubt improve for the outing. Aidan O’Brien’s representative is expected to get off the mark the 7f maiden and go on to bigger things.

ONLY FOR LOVE (Worcester 5.20) won his bumper at the third time of asking for Nicky Henderson and followed up at Uttoxeter on her hurdling debut against her own sex, enjoying the step up to 2m4f. The main worry is that she drops back to a 2m trip and basically looks a stayer. The Ground may also be against her, yet her rivals look a very modest bunch and she is open to progress under Freddie Mitchell, who is one of the best conditionals around.

Brighton Races

LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

PEACHY CARNEHAN (Brighton 2.15) is worth another chance, having failed to land the odds at Catterick last time. Mark Johnston’s juvenile was nosed out of a Goodwood 5f novices’ event on his debut at Goodwood and was not beaten far by previous winner Lawless Louis at Catterick last week. As long as this third race in 17 days does not work against him, he should get off the mark in an ordinary-looking 6f event. The step up in trip should help, too.

EASTERN DRAGON (Ayr 4.00) has twice had to play the bridesmaid in his last two starts, latterly when a head runner-up to Ice Slice at Brighton. He has plenty of form with cut in the ground, which is a slight concern, but Ian Jardine’s six-year-old was beaten by a horse who has subsequently franked that form, winning twice since.

BAADI (Windsor 7.30) won his maiden here in April and followed up in an extended 1m3f handicap off a mark of 84 with a hard-fought success here on good ground last month. The drying ground may well be against him but the 4lb rise should not be a major problem. Sparring could be the one to give him most to do, but he is having his first run for 191 days.

KNIGHT’S PARADE (Pontefract 7.15) appeared to show no ill effects from falling over fences on his penultimate start when staying on really well to get within a head of Be My Sea in a handicap at Kempton off a mark of 76. Sara Humphrey’s six-year-old runs off the same mark today and this extended 2m1f should help in a competitive stayers’ handicap.
